2017 Jaguar E-Type 5.3L Petrol · JKH 638L

The most recent MOT test for the 1973 Jaguar E-Type was completed on April 11, 2024, and the vehicle passed without any defects recorded. This suggests that the car has maintained a stable mechanical condition over the past year, which is encouraging given its age. However, the vehicle has accumulated a total of 72,207 miles, which translates to approximately 53 years of driving or about 1,362 miles per year. This usage rate is relatively low for a vehicle of its age, indicating that it may have experienced fewer wear cycles compared to newer models. Still, prolonged periods of inactivity or standing can affect components such as the suspension, brakes, and electrical systems, so it’s important to assess these areas during the inspection. The mileage figure raises some concerns about the longevity of critical systems. At this rate, the vehicle’s components—especially the braking system, suspension bushings, and exhaust components—may show signs of accelerated wear. A buyer should pay close attention to the condition of the brake discs and calipers, as corrosion or binding can develop quickly under such usage. Additionally, the 1973 model’s engine and transmission will have seen significant oil changes and fluid degradation over time, which should be verified through service records. The lack of recurring advisories in the MOT history is positive, but it does not eliminate the need for a thorough visual and functional check. For a buyer considering this vehicle, it is advisable to inspect the tyres for any signs of perishing or uneven wear, which can indicate alignment or suspension issues. The 12V battery should be tested for health, as older vehicles are more prone to corrosion or failure. Fluid levels and condition—particularly coolant, brake fluid, and transmission fluid—must be checked against service intervals. Given the age of the car, the buyer should also verify that all service book stamps are present and that the vehicle has been maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. If the MOT history remains clean and the mileage is manageable, the E-Type offers a classic build but will require careful attention to its mechanical systems over the coming years.
