2002 Toyota Avensis 2.0L Petrol · MV02 AZN

The vehicle shows a stable maintenance trend in its most recent years, with the February 2022 test at 139,447 miles passing without any recorded defects. This follows a period of clean passes in 2020 and 2021, suggesting that previous mechanical issues have been addressed. However, the record is currently outdated, as the last recorded MOT was conducted over four years ago relative to the current date. The mileage pattern indicates very light usage for a 24-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 5,810 miles per year. The data shows consistent, gradual accumulation, such as the 5,000-mile increase between the September 2014 and September 2015 tests, and the roughly 5,000-mile increments seen between 2019 and 2022. While low mileage often suggests less drivetrain wear, the long intervals between tests and the age of the vehicle may imply periods where the car sat stationary, which can lead to rubber degradation or seized components. A prospective buyer should focus an inspection on the suspension and braking systems, as these components have historically required attention. The February 2019 failure highlighted serious issues including leaking shock absorbers, worn suspension arm bushes, and a major exhaust leak. Although the 2022 test was clean, the age of the vehicle means these rubber bushes and dampers may be nearing the end of their service life. The 2014 and 2017 records also flagged brake imbalances and binding calipers, so a thorough check of the brake discs, pads, and caliper operation is necessary. The history also reveals intermittent issues with exhaust emissions and electrical components like headlamps and registration plate lamps. The 2019 failure specifically noted an exhaust Lambda reading outside specified limits, which can indicate sensor issues or engine management concerns. Given the lapse in recent MOT testing, a physical inspection of the CV joints, steering play, and exhaust integrity is advised to ensure no new degradation has occurred during the period of inactivity.
