1997 Buell S1 1.2L Petrol · P820 MJW

The roadworthiness status of this Buell S1 is currently sound, supported by a clean maintenance trend with no recorded defects across its latest evaluations. In the May 2024 test at 18,261 miles, the motorcycle passed without a single advisory. This follows a similarly pristine test in July 2022, indicating that the machine has been presented to testing stations in a well-maintained condition during its recent history. The machine has covered roughly 18,261 miles over its 29-year lifespan, averaging a low usage rate of approximately 630 miles per year. This sparse record shows an interval of nearly two years between the July 2022 test and the May 2024 test, which points to periods of prolonged storage or very restricted seasonal use. Such extended inactivity often warrants careful scrutiny of perishable rubber components, fluid degradation, and battery health, even when the official test outcomes remain unblemished. Prospective buyers must conduct a thorough physical examination focusing on age-related wear rather than recurring test failures, given the complete absence of historical advisories. Pay close attention to the condition of the Pirelli or equivalent tyres for perishing or flat spots from standing, inspect the belt drive and pulleys for wear or cracking, and check the front and rear suspension seals for weeping oil. Brake discs and calipers should also be examined for surface corrosion or sticking pistons stemming from infrequent use over the past few years.
