1998 Lotus Elise 1.8L Petrol · S111 ADM

The 1998 Lotus Elise exhibits a stable roadworthiness trend, with the most recent MOT on 2025-04-02 confirming no defects at 39,516 miles. Previous tests from 2023, 2010, 2009, and 2008 also showed no issues, indicating consistent maintenance. The absence of recurring faults or advisories suggests the vehicle has been well-preserved, though the long interval between 2010 and 2023 raises questions about potential undetected deterioration during that period. The mileage of 39,516 miles over 28 years equates to an average of 1,411 miles annually, significantly lower than typical usage. Notable gaps exist between 2008 (35,254 miles) and 2010 (39,128 miles), with a 13-year span between the 2010 test and the next in 2023. This sparse testing history, combined with minimal mileage growth, implies the vehicle may have been stored for extended periods, increasing risks of corrosion, rubber degradation, and electrical system issues. The lack of detailed advisories in older records does not confirm absence of latent problems. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the chassis for rust, particularly in the underbody and sills, given the low usage and age. Suspension components, including bushes and coil springs, may require scrutiny for stiffness or wear from inactivity. Brake discs and calipers should be checked for corrosion or binding, as infrequent use can lead to seizing. The exhaust system and body panels should also be examined for hidden damage, as prolonged storage can exacerbate structural vulnerabilities not flagged in MOT records.
