2002 Vauxhall Corsa 1.0L Petrol · SD02 AHL

The Vauxhall Corsa’s most recent MOT test on 2022-07-19 passed with no defects recorded, though it was preceded by a failure just two weeks earlier at 170,355 miles, also with no specific faults logged. This abrupt retest suggests either a minor oversight in scheduling or a temporary administrative issue rather than a mechanical trend. The lack of recurring advisories or defects in the two most recent tests implies the vehicle has not experienced persistent failures in critical systems, but the gap of over three years since the last test—now nearly four years old—means no formal inspection has occurred since. Buyers should prioritise verifying whether the 2022 failure was genuine or a procedural anomaly, as the absence of recorded issues does not preclude undocumented wear. The recorded mileage of 170,370 miles over approximately 24 years equates to an average of around 7,100 miles annually, which is typical for a vehicle of this age. There are no visible gaps in usage that would suggest prolonged neglect, nor is there evidence of rapid mileage accumulation that might indicate aggressive driving or frequent short trips, which can accelerate wear. The lack of intermediate MOT tests or service records means there is no data to confirm whether maintenance was consistent, but the steady mileage suggests the vehicle was likely used regularly rather than stored. Given the sparse MOT history, a buyer should focus their inspection on high-wear components that are not routinely tested by the MOT but are critical to the Corsa’s longevity. The suspension—particularly the rear bushes and coil springs—will require close examination for excessive play or corrosion, as these are common failure points in older models. The brake system, including rear binding calipers or seized wheel cylinders, should be checked for uneven wear or drag, even though the MOT did not flag brake-related issues. Structural integrity, especially around the wheel arches and sills, must be assessed for corrosion, as this model is prone to rust-related failures over 20 years. Finally, the exhaust system should be inspected for leaks or broken hangers, as these are often overlooked until they become MOT failures.
