2000 Daihatsu Cuore 1.0L Petrol · W808 HBD

The most recent MOT test for this Daihatsu Cuore, conducted on 29 October 2021 at 89,119 miles, resulted in a fail with no recorded defects—an unusual omission that warrants immediate scrutiny. The absence of any advisories or failures in the single available test suggests either a test centre error or a vehicle that was not driven to the test, as no issues were logged despite the vehicle’s age and mileage. Without subsequent tests to compare, there is no evidence of a worsening or improving trend in roadworthiness. The lack of any MOT history since 2021—nearly five years ago—raises concerns about whether the vehicle has been regularly maintained or even used, as the DVSA requires annual testing. The recorded mileage of 89,119 miles over approximately 26 years equates to around 3,428 miles per year, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. Such low mileage could indicate prolonged periods of inactivity, storage, or very light use, which may have mitigated some wear but also suggests the vehicle has not been subjected to regular driving conditions that would naturally stress components like suspension, brakes, and drivetrain. The absence of any mileage progression in the MOT record further complicates assessment, as there is no way to verify whether the vehicle was driven at all between tests or if the mileage was artificially inflated or deflated. Given the sparse and incomplete MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of critical high-wear components that are often overlooked in low-mileage vehicles. The suspension—particularly coil springs, bushes, and dampers—should be examined for dry rot, excessive play, or corrosion, as these can develop even without significant mileage. Brake systems, including calipers, pads, and discs, must be checked for uneven wear, binding, or corrosion, especially if the vehicle has been stationary for extended periods. Structural integrity, particularly around the wheel arches, sills, and underbody, should be thoroughly inspected for rust penetration, as this is a common failure point in older Japanese vehicles. Additionally, the exhaust system should be assessed for leaks or corrosion, and the battery, wiring, and fluid levels should be verified to ensure the vehicle is not suffering from neglect. The lack of recent MOT history makes it impossible to confirm whether these areas have been addressed, so a detailed pre-purchase inspection is essential.
