2006 Toyota Avensis 2.0L Diesel · YG56 AHE

The 2006 Toyota Avensis demonstrates stable roadworthiness based on its most recent MOT test on 2023-12-05 at 90,947 miles, which passed with no defects. The prior tests from 2022 and 2021 also showed no issues, indicating consistent maintenance. However, a failure recorded on 2021-09-13 at the same mileage as the subsequent pass raises questions about the accuracy of the data or potential transient issues. The absence of structural or mechanical defects in the latest records suggests the vehicle has been well-maintained, though the two-year gap since the last test may warrant closer scrutiny. The vehicle’s mileage of 90,947 miles over 20 years equates to an average of 4,547 miles annually, significantly below the UK average for its age. This low usage could indicate infrequent operation, which might lead to component degradation from inactivity, such as corrosion or seized mechanisms. The MOT history shows minimal mileage progression between tests, with only 376 miles recorded between 2020-09-12 and 2021-09-13, followed by a 1,446-mile increase by 2022-09-13. Such irregularities suggest possible periods of storage or limited use, which could affect systems like the battery, brakes, or exhaust. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the chassis for rust, particularly in areas prone to moisture ingress, and check suspension components for wear given the low mileage. The absence of brake-related defects in recent tests is reassuring, but the 2021 failure—though unexplained—warrants investigation into potential underlying issues. Additionally, the exhaust system and corrosion levels should be assessed, as prolonged inactivity can accelerate deterioration. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is strongly advised to confirm the vehicle’s mechanical integrity.
