1988 Ford Sierra Sapphire 2.0L Petrol · A15 WAD

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness profile with a clean mechanical record in its most recent inspections. The latest MOT test conducted in March 2025 at 64,193 miles passed with no defects recorded, indicating that the Sierra currently meets the minimum safety and emissions standards. This follows a similarly clean pass in September 2018, suggesting that the vehicle has maintained a consistent mechanical standard during its recent operational life. The mileage history is exceptionally low for a 38-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 1,700 miles per year. There is a significant gap in recorded data between September 2018 and March 2025, during which the car covered only 1,208 miles over seven years. This pattern suggests the vehicle likely sat for long periods or was used sparingly. While low mileage reduces wear on the engine and drivetrain components, it often increases the risk of age-related degradation in rubber components, perished seals, and seized on brake lines. A buyer should focus their in-person inspection on the structural integrity of the chassis and sills, as 1988 Sierra models are prone to corrosion when left stationary. Despite the low mileage, the tester must check for perished suspension bushes and cracked coolant hoses that degrade due to time rather than distance. Particular attention should also be paid to the brake system for seized calipers or rusted discs, as long periods of inactivity frequently lead to internal pitting that might not be immediately apparent during a standard MOT test.
