2017 Vauxhall Astra 1.6L Diesel · AA16 ORR

A pattern of intermittent failures regarding tyre condition and visibility obstructions characterizes this vehicle's recent inspection history, though the most recent results show a period of clean passes. The record shows a transition from several dangerous and major defects in 2021 and 2022—specifically involving tyre tread depth, structural tyre bulges, and windscreen obstructions—to three consecutive passes with no defects recorded between December 2023 and January 2026. While the immediate roadworthiness appears stable based on the latest test on 03 January 2026, the previous history of dangerous tyre failures indicates that consumable maintenance has been inconsistent in the past. The vehicle has covered 101,132 miles over its nine-year lifespan, representing an average annual accumulation of approximately 11,237 miles. This usage profile is consistent with typical UK driving patterns for a vehicle of this age. Mechanically, this level of mileage suggests that while the car has not been subjected to extreme high-speed motorway use, components such as suspension bushes, shock absorbers, and braking systems will have reached a stage of expected wear. The steady mileage progression suggests regular use rather than long periods of stationary storage, which helps mitigate certain risks associated with seized components or fluid degradation. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the tyre and wheel assemblies during a physical inspection and test drive. Given the history of structural tyre bulges and tread depth failures, it is essential to inspect the sidewalls of all four tyres for any signs of bulging, cracking, or uneven wear patterns that could indicate underlying suspension geometry issues. During the test drive, listen for any rhythmic thumping or vibration through the steering wheel or floorpan, which could suggest internal tyre damage or unevenly worn tread, and check for any pulling to one side that might indicate worn suspension linkages or incorrect alignment. The previous failure regarding the nearside front door being inoperable suggests a past issue with door latch mechanisms or handle linkages. While the recent clean MOTs indicate this was rectified, a thorough check of all door handles and locking mechanisms is necessary to ensure full functionality. Additionally, because the vehicle has surpassed the 100,000-mile mark, the test drive should also focus on the smoothness of the drivetrain and the absence of any excessive engine or exhaust noise, ensuring that the mechanical components have transitioned through this high-mileage phase without developing significant irregularities.
