2004 Volkswagen Passat 1.9L Diesel · AD04 TXW

The overall roadworthiness status of this 2004 Volkswagen Passat remains stable, with the maintenance trend showing no signs of deterioration. The most recent MOT test on 22 January 2024 at 117,945 miles passed without recording any defects. This follows a clean pass on 16 December 2022 at 110,495 miles. Although a test on 12 December 2022 at 110,494 miles resulted in a failure, the official record indicates no defects were noted for that specific test, suggesting the failure likely stemmed from an administrative or procedural issue rather than a mechanical fault. The mileage pattern reflects exceptionally light use for a vehicle of this age. Averaging roughly 5,361 miles per year over its 22-year lifespan, the Passat has covered a total of 117,945 miles. Between the December 2022 test at 110,495 miles and the January 2024 test at 117,945 miles, the odometer advanced by 7,450 miles over a thirteen-month period. This indicates the vehicle was driven regularly during that interval, rather than sitting idle for extended durations, though the overall annual accumulation remains well below the national average. Despite the clean MOT record, a buyer must inspect the vehicle thoroughly for age-related deterioration, as low mileage does not exempt a twenty-two-year-old car from perishing and corrosion. Examine the structural integrity of the sills, floor pans, and subframes for corrosion, a common issue on older Passats. Check the condition of suspension bushes and coil springs for cracking or wear, and assess the brake discs and calipers for surface corrosion that can develop even with minimal use. Inspect the tyre sidewall dates and tread depth, as older rubber degrades through age rather than mileage.
