2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC 2.0L Petrol · AJ17 HMV

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC presents a clean bill of health at its most recent MOT on 4 June 2026 at 34,899 miles, with zero defects recorded. This marks a notable improvement from the September 2023 test at 24,980 miles, where the tester flagged slight play in the offside front wheel bearing and a worn offside rear tyre. Both issues were evidently addressed before the 2025 test at 30,734 miles, which also passed without advisories. The overall maintenance trend is therefore one of resolution rather than recurrence, suggesting the previous owner corrected the flagged defects promptly rather than allowing them to deteriorate. The mileage profile tells a story of very light use. Across nine years the car has covered just 34,899 miles, averaging roughly 3,878 miles annually. The jump from 30,734 miles in August 2025 to 34,899 miles by June 2026 represents an unusual acceleration, with 4,165 miles added in under ten months after years of slower accumulation. That spike could indicate a change in ownership or usage pattern, but the clean MOT result suggests the vehicle was maintained adequately regardless. The record itself is sparse, with only five tests logged over nine years, yet each one passed, and the gap between 2023 and 2025 shows no missed annual tests. Despite the clean recent record, the 2023 advisory on the offside front wheel bearing warrants attention. Slight play in a wheel bearing can stem from corrosion, inadequate lubrication, or simply age-related wear, and while it was clearly rectified, a buyer should verify there is no residual roughness or noise from that hub during a road test. The offside rear tyre wear noted in the same test, specifically worn on the edge, hints at possible tracking misalignment or suspension geometry drift. Inspect the inner and outer shoulders of all four tyres for uneven wear patterns, and check the condition of the rear suspension bushes and track rod ends for play. Given the low annual mileage, also assess whether the vehicle has spent extended periods stationary. Prolonged sitting can cause flat-spotted tyres, seized brake calipers, and localised corrosion on brake discs and exhaust components. Check the underside for surface rust on subframes and suspension arms, and verify that the brake discs are free from lipping or pitting. The SLC is a relatively low-volume convertible, so structural corrosion in the sills, jack points, and floor pan is worth confirming visually. Mechanically, the record is reassuring, but a hands-on inspection remains essential to validate that the clean paperwork matches the physical condition.
