2004 Volkswagen Golf 1.6L Petrol · AJ54 DZX

The vehicle’s most recent MOT on 2024-03-14 resulted in a failure, though no defects were recorded. Prior tests in 2023 and 2022 showed no issues, indicating a stable maintenance record over the past two years. The absence of recorded faults in these tests suggests the car has been well-maintained, but the failure without explanation raises questions about potential unaddressed concerns. The lack of detailed defect notes limits definitive conclusions about its current roadworthiness. The mileage of 140,579 miles aligns with an average annual usage of 6,390 miles, consistent with typical patterns for a 22-year-old vehicle. The MOT tests spaced approximately 12 months apart show steady mileage increments of 3,000–4,000 miles, reflecting regular use without prolonged inactivity. No significant gaps or rapid accumulation are evident, implying predictable wear on components like tyres, brakes, and suspension. However, the sparse defect data offers limited insight into specific mechanical conditions. A buyer should inspect the suspension system for worn bushes or coil springs, common in older vehicles, and check for corrosion in the exhaust system or bodywork. The absence of brake-related defects in MOT records does not eliminate the need to verify brake discs, pads, and calipers for wear or binding. Structural integrity should also be assessed, as rust or panel damage could affect safety. While the MOT history shows no critical failures, these areas require physical inspection to confirm the car’s ongoing roadworthiness.
