2004 Volkswagen Golf 1.4L Petrol · AK04 YHF

The most recent MOT on 17 November 2023 recorded a failure at 118,429 miles, though the DVSA entry lists no defects. Prior to that, the vehicle passed on 15 November 2022 at 113,838 miles with no advisories. The history shows repeated same-day fail-and-pass cycles in 2021 and 2022, suggesting administrative or presentation issues at test rather than progressive mechanical decline. Overall roadworthiness cannot be confirmed from a clean pass alone, and the latest failure with no stated defect warrants caution. Annual mileage sits at roughly 5,383 miles against 22 years of age, a low figure for a 2004 Volkswagen Golf. The odometer moved from 107,869 miles in November 2021 to 113,838 by November 2022, then to 118,429 by November 2023. That equates to about 5,000 to 6,000 miles per year with no abrupt jumps. The sparse record shows no advisories across any test, which may reflect light use or simply minimal tester commentary rather than verified condition. A buyer should physically inspect structural integrity and corrosion on sills, subframes, and suspension mounting points, as the Golf platform of this era is prone to rust where moisture collects. The brake discs, calipers, and flexible hoses need hands-on checks despite no binding or imbalance being logged. Suspension bushes and coil springs should be examined for fatigue from long standing periods between drives. Given the November 2023 failure carries no recorded defect, the buyer must obtain the failure reason from DVSA before purchase. Without that detail, assume nothing about roadworthiness and commission an independent inspection of exhaust emissions, steering joints, and tyre condition.
