2014 Volkswagen Caddy 2.0L Diesel · AL60 LCS

A clean and consistent pass record across the most recent four annual examinations, with no advisories logged on any of them, gives this Caddy a strong roadworthiness baseline for its age and mileage. The most recent test on 28 August 2025 was completed without a single defect recorded, mirroring the outcomes from September 2024, August 2023 and September 2022. The only blemish on the history is a failure recorded just a week before the September 2022 pass, although that entry contains no defect detail, suggesting the failure may have related to an administrative item or a rectification carried out between tests. Taken together, the trend is one of stable, untroubled compliance with the MOT standard, with no evidence of recurring or progressive deterioration in any specific component group. With 176,452 miles on the odometer over roughly twelve years, this Caddy has averaged close to 14,700 miles per year, a notably high annual accumulation that is typical of a working commercial vehicle rather than a private-use car. There are no obvious extended gaps in the testing record that would suggest the vehicle was laid up for any length of time, and the mileage has therefore been built up through continuous service. Mechanically, that level of sustained use will have placed considerable wear on the drivetrain, clutch, turbo system if diesel, suspension components, wheel bearings and braking consumables, even though none of these items have yet risen to the level of an MOT failure or advisory. Because the advisory record is unusually sparse for a high-mileage van, a prospective buyer should not interpret the clean paperwork as a guarantee that all wear-related items remain within factory tolerance. Particular attention should be paid on a test drive to the clutch take-up point and any signs of slip or judder under load, which is a common wear item at this mileage. Listen for knocks or clonks from the front suspension over speed humps and uneven surfaces, particularly from the lower control arms, anti-roll bar bushes and drop links, all of which deteriorate progressively on heavily worked Caddys. Steering should feel tight without excessive play or knocking on full lock, and the front strut top mounts should be checked for any rocking when the wheels are turned. The braking system deserves a focused road test even though no related defects have been flagged. With this mileage, expect the discs to be on their second or third set, and feel for any vibration through the pedal under firm braking, which would indicate disc warpage. The handbrake should hold the vehicle on a steep incline without creeping, and a binding rear caliper will often manifest as a hot wheel after a short drive or uneven pad wear. The diesel particulate filter, where fitted, should be exercised on a sustained dual-carriageway run during the test drive to ensure it completes a regeneration without warning lights appearing, as DPFs on high-mileage commercial vehicles are a known concern. Finally, inspect the underside for any oil misting from the engine or gearbox, and check the exhaust system for corrosion at the joint flexes and mounting rubbers, areas that are routinely flagged on vans of this age.
