2006 Honda Civic 1.8L Petrol · AV06 XXB

The vehicle presents a concerning roadworthiness profile with a maintenance trend that suggests reactive rather than proactive care. While the most recent MOT test recorded in December 2022 at 149,903 miles passed, it followed an immediate failure for an offside front anti-roll bar linkage linkage and reduced damping in both front shock absorbers. These issues were previously flagged as advisories in September 2021, indicating that the owner only addressed components once they reached failure thresholds rather than performing a comprehensive suspension overhaul. At 149,903 miles, the car has averaged approximately 7,500 miles per year, which aligns with typical usage for a twenty-year-old. However, there is a significant gap in records between the August 2020 test at 127,164 miles and the September 2021 test. During this sixteen-month period, the vehicle covered over 10,000 miles. The failure in 2021 for rear brake pads being less than 1.5mm thick suggests that basic consumable service intervals were neglected until they became a safety risk. A buyer must conduct a thorough physical inspection of the front suspension, as the history shows recurring issues with anti-roll bar linkages and shock absorber degradation across multiple years. The progression from light oil misting in 2021 to a reduced damping failure in 2022 indicates the front dampers are nearing the end of their functional life. Given the age of the Honda, close attention should be paid to corrosion on the sills and subframe, as the MOT record does not account for structural integrity. The lack of an MOT record since December 2022 means the vehicle is currently overdue for testing, which is a significant red flag regarding its current mechanical state.
