2009 Volkswagen Caddy 1.9L Diesel · AV09 YTT

Recurring issues with suspension components and brake system integrity define the mechanical profile of this Volkswagen Caddy. The most recent test on 03 November 2025 shows a trend of progressing wear, moving from worn suspension bushes in previous years to a minor defect involving severely deteriorated dust covers on both lower suspension arm ball joints. Additionally, the latest record introduces an advisory for an oil leak and notes that both rear brake discs are worn, pitted, or scored. This follows a history of persistent advisories regarding corroded brake pipes and worn front suspension arm pins or bushes dating back to at least 2023. The vehicle has covered 221,246 miles over its 17-year lifespan, representing an average annual accumulation of approximately 13,014 miles. This level of usage is relatively high for a vehicle of this age, suggesting consistent operational use rather than long periods of inactivity. Mechanically, this sustained mileage increases the likelihood of accelerated wear on consumable components, particularly within the drivetrain, braking system, and various suspension linkages, which is reflected in the frequent advisories recorded over the last several testing cycles. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the condition of the chassis and braking hardware. The history of corroded brake pipes, which were noted as being covered in grease in 2024 to mitigate the issue, necessitates a thorough inspection of the entire hydraulic system for further degradation. During a test drive, pay close attention to the braking performance; the advisory regarding pitted and scored rear discs may manifest as pedal judder or vibrations through the pedal box under deceleration. Any unevenness in braking force or a sponginess in the pedal could indicate that the previous corrosion issues have progressed. The repeated advisories concerning front suspension arm bushes and the recent deterioration of ball joint dust covers suggest that the steering and suspension geometry may be compromised. On the road, listen for knocking or clunking noises when driving over uneven surfaces or speed bumps, and feel for any wandering or pulling in the steering as the vehicle moves at varying speeds. The presence of an oil leak in the 2025 record also warrants a visual inspection of the engine bay and underside to identify the source, as this could relate to the power steering seepage noted in earlier years or a more significant gasket or seal failure.
