2013 Audi A3 2.0L Diesel · AV13 DZP

The most recent MOT test passed on 23 March 2026, though it includes an advisory for an offside rear tyre being worn close to the legal limit and worn on the edge. When evaluating the overall maintenance trend, there is a discernible shift from a period of clean MOT results between 2019 and 2024 to a recurring pattern of tyre-related advisories from 2022 onwards. This trend suggests that while the vehicle remains fundamentally roadworthy, there is a growing issue regarding consumable maintenance or, more critically, the vehicle's wheel alignment and suspension geometry. With a recorded mileage of 239,137 miles over 13 years, this Audi A3 has averaged approximately 18,395 miles per year. This is a high rate of usage compared to typical domestic driving patterns, indicating the vehicle has likely been used extensively for long-distance commuting or motorway travel. While consistent high mileage can sometimes imply a more predictable wear pattern than short, stop-start urban trips, it significantly increases the probability of advanced wear on critical components such as the suspension bushes, dampers, drivetrain, and braking system. The recurring advisories for tyres being worn on the edges are a primary concern for a prospective buyer. This specific symptom often points to incorrect wheel alignment, worn suspension components, or failing dampers. During a test drive, you should listen intently for any knocking, clunking, or rattling sounds when traversing uneven surfaces, which could indicate worn suspension bushes or perished coil springs. Furthermore, pay close attention to the steering; any pulling to one side or vibrations through the steering wheel at cruising speeds could confirm tracking issues or uneven tyre wear. Beyond the tyre issues, the high mileage necessitates a thorough inspection of the vehicle's mechanical integrity. Check the engine bay and underbody for signs of fluid leaks, such as oil or coolant, and inspect the brake discs for excessive corrosion or thinning. Given the age and mileage, it is vital to verify that the service history is documented and that major maintenance items, such as the timing belt or water pump, have been replaced according to manufacturer intervals. You should also check the underside for structural corrosion and ensure that the tyres do not show signs of sidewall cracking or perishing, although tread depth and alignment remain the most immediate concerns.
