2016 Honda Civic 1.8L Petrol · AV16 JTZ

The 2016 Honda Civic presents a stable and largely clean roadworthiness profile, with the most recent MOT conducted on 3 March 2026 at 56,020 miles resulting in a pass. The maintenance trend is broadly stable, though two recurring advisories have persisted across consecutive tests. Both the March 2026 and March 2025 tests flagged tyre cracking or perishing on all four tyres and a slightly distorted nearside front inner road wheel. These items did not prevent a pass but have remained unresolved for over a year, suggesting cosmetic or slow-ageing deterioration rather than acute mechanical failure. The underlying structure and primary safety systems have consistently met the standard since at least March 2022. The mileage pattern reinforces the low-use profile. Between March 2022 at 45,529 miles and March 2026 at 56,020 miles, the car covered just 10,491 miles across four years, averaging roughly 2,623 miles annually. That is well below the typical UK annual figure of around 7,000 to 8,000 miles for a vehicle of this age. The increments between tests are modest and consistent: 7,331 miles between March 2022 and March 2023, 1,908 miles between March 2023 and March 2024, 654 miles between March 2024 and March 2025, and 599 miles between March 2025 and March 2026. This points to very light, possibly short-journey use in recent years, which can accelerate certain forms of deterioration such as tyre perishing, brake surface corrosion, and exhaust condensation-related wear despite the low odometer reading. A buyer should focus the physical inspection on the areas repeatedly highlighted by the MOT record. The persistent advisory on all four tyres for cracking or perishing indicates age-related rubber degradation rather than simple wear, particularly given the very low mileage. Tyre manufacture dates should be checked; if the tyres are original or date from around 2020 to 2021, replacement on age grounds alone is likely due regardless of remaining tread depth. The slightly distorted nearside front inner road wheel warrants close inspection for kerb impact damage, sidewall bulging, or cracking at the rim. A wheel balance and tracking check would help determine whether the distortion has caused uneven tyre wear or steering vibration. Beyond the flagged items, the low annual mileage and recent sub-600-mile yearly use raise secondary concerns. Brake discs and pads may show surface corrosion rather than smooth bedding, particularly on a vehicle that may sit for extended periods between short trips. Suspension components, including bushes, drop links, and dampers, should be inspected for deterioration that can occur through standing and corrosion rather than mileage alone. The exhaust system and DPF, if fitted, deserve attention because light use can lead to incomplete regeneration cycles and localised corrosion. Overall, the record indicates a structurally sound and mechanically compliant car with minor, recurring cosmetic and age-related items that should be verified in person before purchase.
