1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2L Petrol · AVV 135J

This Jaguar E-Type has passed its most recent MOT test on 18 March 2024 with no defects recorded, indicating a stable roadworthiness status at that point. The absence of advisories or failings suggests the vehicle cleared all mandatory checks for brakes, suspension, steering, emissions, and structural integrity without incident. However, the test date is now over two and a half years old, placing it well beyond the standard 12-month MOT validity period. Given the vehicle’s age and the prolonged gap since testing, a thorough professional inspection is essential to confirm there have been no undetected issues with critical components such as brake fluid condition, suspension bush deterioration, or corrosion in wheel arches and underbody. The recorded mileage of 1,811 miles at the time of the last MOT—equivalent to roughly 200 miles per year—is exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age. Such minimal usage may imply prolonged periods of storage, which can accelerate wear on fluids, tyres, and seals even when the engine is not running. The lack of intermediate mileage readings makes it impossible to determine whether the vehicle was ever driven regularly or if there were extended layoffs. Without additional service records, there is no way to verify if routine maintenance—such as brake fluid changes, suspension servicing, or corrosion protection—was conducted during these low-activity periods. Given the sparse MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an inspection of components that degrade passively over time, particularly in low-mileage conditions. Focus on brake fluid condition and hydraulic integrity, as prolonged inactivity can lead to moisture contamination and reduced effectiveness. The suspension should be checked for dried-out bushes and coil spring fatigue, especially if the vehicle has been stored on uneven surfaces. Underbody corrosion in wheel arches, sills, and subframes is another critical concern, as rust can compromise structural integrity without visibly affecting drivability. Finally, the exhaust system and emissions-related components should be examined for leaks or blockages, as these can develop silently over years of minimal use. The absence of recent MOT failings does not guarantee these areas remain unaffected.
