2015 Volkswagen Polo 1.2L Petrol · AW08 WOO

Significant structural and underbody corrosion represents the primary mechanical risk for this vehicle, as evidenced by the most recent MOT pass on 25 November 2025 which flagged widespread issues. While the car has maintained a consistent passing record since 2021, the latest inspection reveals a concerning trend of deteriorating condition regarding the exhaust system, suspension components, and general underbody integrity. The transition from a clean record in 2024 to multiple advisories for corrosion and a damaged undertray in late 2025 suggests that the vehicle's lower chassis components are currently in a state of progressive decay that requires close monitoring. The recorded mileage of 74,084 miles over its eleven-year lifespan indicates a relatively moderate usage pattern, averaging approximately 6,735 miles per year. This level of annual accumulation is typical for a small hatchback and suggests the vehicle has not been subjected to extreme high-mileage motorway driving, nor has it suffered from the mechanical stagnation often associated with very low-mileage vehicles. Mechanically, this mileage level means that while the engine and drivetrain may have moderate wear, the primary concerns are likely to be age-related degradation of rubber components and environmental corrosion rather than high-frequency mechanical fatigue. A prospective buyer must pay particular attention to the underside of the vehicle during a physical inspection. The advisories for exhaust corrosion and corroded exhaust sleeve clamps indicate that the emission system is weakening, which could lead to premature failure or increased noise levels. Furthermore, the advisory for underbody and suspension corrosion is a critical point of interest; you should look for heavy scaling on the subframe and mounting points. During a test drive, listen closely for any metallic knocking, clunking, or creaking sounds when traversing uneven surfaces or speed bumps, as these are classic symptoms of failing suspension bushes or weakened structural components. Additional scrutiny should be applied to the braking system and tyre wear patterns. The 2022 advisory regarding a binding offside rear service brake suggests that caliper movement or piston seizure has been an issue in the past, so ensure the car pulls straight and that there is no excessive heat radiating from the wheels after a short drive. Given the 2023 advisories for inner tyre wear on both front axles, it is essential to check the current alignment and steering response. Any pulling to one side or a wandering sensation through the steering wheel could indicate that the suspension geometry has been compromised by the aforementioned corrosion or worn steering linkages.
