2005 Ford Focus C-MAX 1.8L Petrol · AX05 LHA

The vehicle most recently passed its MOT on 31 October 2025 with no defects or advisories recorded. Reviewing the history back to 2018, the maintenance trend is remarkably stable, showing a consistent pattern of clean passes without any reported failures or warnings. While such a pristine record is uncommon for a vehicle of this vintage, it suggests a disciplined approach to preventative maintenance and a high standard of overall vehicle care. With a recorded mileage of 164,247 miles over 21 years, the vehicle has averaged approximately 7,821 miles per year. This usage rate is typical for its age and indicates a consistent operational history rather than periods of prolonged standing or excessive heavy-duty use. At this mileage, the primary mechanical considerations shift from general wear to the lifecycle of major components, specifically the drivetrain, engine mounts, and suspension geometry, which will have undergone significant stress over two decades. Given the absence of MOT advisories, the buyer must perform a rigorous physical inspection to identify age-related degradation that may not trigger a failure. Particular attention should be paid to the condition of the tyre sidewalls for signs of perishing or ozone cracking, regardless of tread depth. The brake system should be checked for binding calipers or surface corrosion on the discs, and the 12V battery health should be verified, as older vehicles are more prone to voltage drops that can affect electronic stability. It is essential to verify the service history for calendar-based maintenance, specifically the timing belt and water pump intervals, as these are critical failure points for this engine regardless of mileage. Inspect the suspension bushes and coil springs for hairline fractures or perished rubber, which can lead to vague steering or clunking over bumps during a test drive. Finally, check for oil seepage around the cylinder head and sump, and ensure the coolant is free of contamination, as fluid degradation is a primary concern for a vehicle of this age.
