2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2.1L Diesel · AX16 KWN

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter received its most recent MOT test on 31st July 2026, achieving a clean pass with no recorded defects or advisories. Over the preceding eight years, the vehicle has consistently passed all MOT examinations without any failures, indicating a stable maintenance record and no evidence of recurring mechanical issues. The absence of advisories or defect codes—particularly those related to structural integrity, exhaust emissions, or critical safety components—suggests that the vehicle has been well-maintained to date, though the lack of service history or specific maintenance records means potential hidden wear or deferred servicing could not be confirmed. The consistent passing of MOTs, however, does provide a reassuring baseline for prospective buyers, though the absence of service logs or a service book means the true extent of wear on consumables like fluids, filters, and wear items cannot be definitively assessed without further inspection. The recorded mileage of 97,402 miles for a vehicle aged approximately nine years represents an annual usage rate of around 9,740 miles, which is on the higher end for a Sprinter of this age but aligns with typical usage patterns for commercial or heavily driven vehicles. Lower mileage could imply periods of inactivity or lighter use, potentially leading to issues such as standing corrosion on brake components, fluid degradation from stagnation, or premature wear on suspension elements due to lack of dynamic loading. Conversely, higher mileage accelerates wear on consumables like brake pads, suspension bushes, and drivetrain components, as well as potential fluid degradation over time. The vehicle’s usage profile suggests it has undergone significant operational demands, which may have contributed to wear progression in areas like the drivetrain, exhaust system, and suspension, though the MOT history alone does not reveal the extent of these effects. Given the clean MOT history and typical mileage for its age, the buyer should conduct a thorough physical inspection to identify any age-related or usage-related wear that may not have been flagged by the MOT test. Firstly, examine the tyres for signs of sidewall cracking or perishing, which can occur even with moderate mileage due to prolonged exposure to UV light and ozone. Check for uneven wear patterns, which may indicate misalignment, suspension issues, or steering problems. Inspect the brake system for signs of corrosion on discs, binding calipers, or warping, particularly if the vehicle has been stationary for extended periods. The battery should be tested for voltage output and corrosion on terminals, as older vehicles are more susceptible to standing discharge and terminal oxidation. Additionally, the buyer should verify the condition of the suspension components, including coil springs, shock absorbers, and suspension bushes, for signs of excessive play, leaks, or physical deterioration. Listen for unusual noises during a test drive, such as clunking from worn suspension bushes or a loss of ride quality from failing shock absorbers. Fluid levels—particularly brake fluid, coolant, and transmission fluid—should be checked for contamination or degradation, with a recommendation to replace them if they have not been serviced within the manufacturer’s recommended intervals, which for many Sprinters is typically every 60,000 to 100,000 miles or every two years. Finally, a thorough inspection of the exhaust system for leaks, corrosion, or catalytic converter efficiency is advisable, as these can impact emissions performance and safety. The absence of a service book or maintenance records means the buyer should prioritise these checks to ensure the vehicle’s longevity and reliability, particularly given its age and usage profile.
