1985 Talbot Horizon 1.4L Petrol · B471 TEL

The 2024‑03‑04 MOT at 81,410 miles confirms the Talbot Horizon remains roadworthy, with only a minor exhaust leak and a worn front brake disc noted as defects. Recurring brake disc wear and intermittent oil leaks indicate a pattern of periodic attention rather than steady neglect, though the recent test shows no worsening of structural issues. The vehicle has accumulated roughly 1,986 miles per year since its 1985 manufacture, a figure that is low for its age and suggests long periods of inactivity. Mileage increments were modest between 2005 and 2012 (655 miles over seven years) and between 2016 and 2017 (160 miles in a year), but the interval from 2020 to 2024 added 1,058 miles, indicating a recent increase in usage. A buyer should examine the front suspension bushes and coil springs for excessive wear, verify that the front brake discs are not excessively scored, and inspect the exhaust system for the reported leak, as these items have recurred across multiple tests. The steering rack gaiters, constant‑velocity joint boots and suspension arm ball‑joint dust covers also merit close visual inspection. In addition, the condition of the seat‑belt buckles, steering rack gaiters and battery mounting should be checked, since earlier failures in these areas were recorded, and the tyre tread and wiper condition merit visual assessment given the low annual mileage.
