2005 Fiat Scudo 2.0L Diesel · BC05 DOG

A history of structural corrosion and suspension wear characterizes the mid-term record of this vehicle, although the trend has improved significantly in recent years. While the 2020 and 2021 tests flagged multiple advisories regarding sills, fuel tank supports, and shock absorbers, the record has since cleared, culminating in a clean pass on 2025-08-20 with no defects recorded. This transition from multiple advisories to a clean record suggests that previous defects may have been addressed, though the underlying susceptibility to corrosion remains a factor for a vehicle of this age. At 181,386 miles over 21 years, the vehicle has averaged approximately 8,637 miles per year. This steady accumulation is typical for a light commercial vehicle of this vintage. Mechanically, this level of usage implies significant wear on high-stress components, particularly the drivetrain, suspension bushings, and braking systems, which are subject to prolonged fatigue over nearly two hundred thousand miles. Inspection should focus on the areas previously flagged for corrosion and wear. The 2020 and 2021 records highlighted corrosion on the nearside front and rear sills, as well as a corroded fuel tank strap and frame. A physical inspection of the underbody is necessary to determine if these areas were remediated or if the corrosion has progressed. Additionally, the gearbox mounting was previously noted as defective and corroded, which can lead to increased drivetrain vibration. During a test drive, pay close attention to the suspension and steering. The offside rear shock absorber was previously flagged for oil misting and limited damping, and the nearside front suspension arm ball joint showed play. Listen for knocks or clunks when traversing uneven surfaces and feel for excessive body roll or instability during braking and cornering. Check for any steering vagueness or pull that might indicate lingering wear in the front suspension linkages.
