2006 Honda Civic 1.8L Petrol · BF06 XJW

This 2006 Honda Civic has maintained a consistent roadworthiness record over its most recent MOT cycles, with no defects or advisories recorded in the January 2025 test at 164,024 miles. The absence of any failures or warnings across the past four tests—spanning November 2021 to January 2025—indicates that the vehicle has passed all mandatory checks for brakes, suspension, steering, emissions, and structural integrity without incident. While this suggests the car has been reliably maintained according to MOT standards, the lack of advisories or minor defects does not preclude underlying wear that may not have reached MOT failure thresholds. The most recent test was conducted just six months ago, which is within the ideal window for assessing current condition, though an independent inspection remains essential. The recorded mileage of 164,024 miles over 20 years equates to approximately 8,200 miles per year, a rate that aligns with typical usage for a vehicle of this age. There are no significant gaps between tests—each MOT was conducted within a few days of the 12-month anniversary—indicating consistent compliance with legal requirements. The mileage progression shows no abrupt jumps or prolonged periods of inactivity, which could have signalled neglect or extended storage. However, the steady accumulation suggests regular driving, which may accelerate wear on components like suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers over time. Given the clean MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an inspection of high-wear items that often exceed MOT tolerance limits before failure. Focus on the suspension system, particularly the rear bushes and coil springs, as these components frequently degrade beyond visual inspection thresholds after 20 years. The brakes, though not flagged, should be scrutinised for uneven wear, binding calipers, or corrosion on the rear discs—common issues in older Honda Civics with higher mileage. Additionally, check for structural corrosion, particularly around the wheel arches, sills, and subframe mounts, as these areas are prone to rust progression over time. Tyre condition, while not recorded in the MOT, warrants verification, as the absence of tread-related advisories in past tests could indicate either careful maintenance or a recent replacement.
