2012 Fiat 500 1.2L Petrol · BF12 VZD

The 2012 Fiat 500 presents a stable and improving maintenance trend, culminating in a clean pass at its most recent MOT on 6 September 2025 at 57,299 miles. The absence of any recorded defects in the last three consecutive annual tests indicates the vehicle currently meets all roadworthiness standards, though a fresh test is now due given the current date. A failed test on 9 August 2022 at 51,653 miles appears anomalous, as the DVSA record lists no specific defects for that failure, though a subsequent pass just eight days later on 17 August 2022 at 51,673 miles confirms the issue was swiftly rectified. The recorded mileage of 57,299 miles over fourteen years equates to an annual average of roughly 4,093 miles, marking this as a very low-mileage example. The MOT history reveals highly consistent usage, with yearly increments ranging from 1,588 miles between 2024 and 2025 to 2,113 miles between 2022 and 2023. Such minimal accumulation suggests the car spent its life covering short, local trips. Prolonged standing and short-journey driving often mask underlying mechanical issues, as components like brake discs and exhaust systems suffer from surface corrosion rather than wear. Despite the pristine MOT record, a buyer must inspect the vehicle for the specific ailments associated with low-mileage, short-hop usage. Check the brake discs for heavy lipping and surface pitting, a common issue when pads rarely reach optimal operating temperature to wipe the rotors clean. Examine the exhaust system for corrosion, as short runs prevent moisture from evaporating, leading to premature rust-through of the silencer boxes. Inspect the tyre sidewalls for age-related cracking and flat-spotting, given the car likely sat stationary for extended periods. Finally, assess the suspension bushes and coil springs for deterioration, as infrequent use does not prevent perishing of rubber components.
