2018 Volvo FH Heavy oil · BHZ 1010

A consistent track record of roadworthiness defines this vehicle, with six consecutive MOT passes recorded between 2021 and 2026 without a single defect or advisory noted. This stability is evident in the most recent test on 11 March 2026, which confirmed the vehicle remains compliant with DVSA standards. The absence of recurring failures or warnings over a five-year period indicates a stable mechanical state regarding the specific items inspected during these tests. The recorded mileage of 288,059 miles is high for an eight-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 36,000 miles per annum. Such high-intensity usage typically accelerates the wear of drivetrain components, suspension bushings, and braking systems. While the MOT records show no failures, the sheer volume of distance covered means the vehicle has been subjected to significant operational stress, which typically manifests in the degradation of high-wear consumables and structural fatigue over time. Given the absence of recorded defects, a physical inspection should focus on high-wear areas typical of this mileage that may not have reached a failure threshold during testing. During a test drive, pay close attention to the drivetrain for any unusual vibrations or gear hunting and listen for knocks or clunks from the suspension linkages when traversing uneven surfaces. Any steering pull or excessive play in the steering wheel should be noted, as these can be precursors to the wear of steering rack components. Check the brake pedal feel for any judder or sponginess, which would indicate disc wear or air system issues common in high-mileage heavy vehicles. Inspect the chassis and subframe for any signs of surface corrosion or structural fatigue that may not have been deemed a failure but are relevant given the vehicle's age and usage. Ensure that the air suspension operates smoothly without audible leaks or uneven leveling, as these components are subject to significant wear over nearly 300,000 miles.
