2006 Ford Mondeo 2.2L Diesel · BJ56 KMM

A pattern of recurring wear on consumables and braking components defines the mechanical history of this Ford Mondeo, despite a clean result in the most recent test on 02 October 2025. The record shows a fluctuating trend where the vehicle has moved from significant major failures in 2021—involving a fractured coil spring, a split CV boot, and leaking brake calipers—to a period of frequent advisories concerning brake disc condition and tyre wear. While the 2025 pass indicates no current defects, the preceding years demonstrate consistent issues with brake disc pitting and uneven tyre wear, suggesting that while the vehicle meets minimum standards, specific subsystems have required attention to maintain roadworthiness. The recorded mileage of 84,735 miles over approximately twenty years represents a low annual accumulation of roughly 4,237 miles. This usage profile suggests the vehicle has been driven significantly less than the UK average, which can result in specific mechanical considerations. While lower mileage typically implies less cumulative wear on the drivetrain and engine internals, it can also lead to components such as brake discs and tyres ageing or degrading due to infrequent use or environmental exposure rather than heavy mechanical load. This is reflected in the 2023 and 2024 advisories regarding pitted brake discs and tyres worn on the edges. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the braking system and suspension during a test drive, given the history of binding calipers, leaking hydraulic components, and worn discs. Listen for any unusual grinding noises when applying the brakes or feel for pedal judder, which could indicate that the pitting or scoring noted in previous years has recurred. Additionally, because of the 2021 failure involving a fractured coil spring and the subsequent advisories for uneven tyre wear, it is essential to check for any knocking or clunking sounds when driving over undulations or speed bumps, as these symptoms often point to worn suspension bushes or compromised spring integrity. The history of tyres being worn on the inner edges and close to the legal limit suggests potential issues with wheel alignment or suspension geometry. During a road test, check for any steering pull to one side or a wandering sensation at cruising speeds, which would indicate that the alignment issues flagged in 2023 and 2024 have not been fully rectified. A thorough visual inspection of the CV boots and the condition of the brake cables is also advised to ensure the major failures recorded in 2021 have been addressed with permanent repairs rather than temporary fixes.
