2011 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4L Petrol · CK11 DZR

The 2011 Vauxhall Corsa presents a largely stable maintenance trend, though the most recent MOT on 1 September 2025 at 74,322 miles introduced a new advisory that warrants attention. The tester flagged slight external damage to the casing on both the nearside and offside rear shock absorbers, recorded under item 5.3.2 (b). This is the first defect noted in the entire five-test history, meaning the previous four consecutive passes from November 2021 through November 2024 were completely clean. The trend is therefore stable overall, but the latest advisory suggests a minor deterioration in rear suspension condition that a buyer should verify has not worsened in the nine months since that test. The mileage pattern tells a clear story of very light use. The car has covered just 14,993 miles over the five-year MOT record, from 59,319 miles in November 2021 to 74,322 miles in September 2025. That equates to roughly 3,000 miles per year during the recorded period, well below the already low annual average of 4,955 miles across the vehicle's full fifteen-year life. The accumulation is steady with no sudden spikes or suspicious gaps, suggesting consistent short-journey or occasional use rather than long periods of inactivity. The record is clean and complete with no missing tests, which supports a pattern of regular, if minimal, annual mileage. The rear shock absorber casings should be the primary focus of any pre-purchase inspection. External casing damage can result from stone impact, corrosion, or contact with road debris, and while the advisory was classified as slight at the time of the September 2025 test, compromised casings can allow moisture and grit ingress, accelerating internal wear and eventually leading to damping failure. A buyer should have the rear suspension inspected on a ramp, checking for oil misting around the shock absorber seals, corrosion on the lower mounting points, and the condition of the bump stops and coil springs. Tyre condition on the rear axle should also be examined, as uneven wear can indicate that a damper is no longer controlling wheel movement effectively. Beyond the flagged item, the general low-mileage profile raises its own considerations. Fifteen years of light use can mean perished rubber components, dried-out suspension bushes, and brake calipers that may be sticking due to prolonged standing rather than high-mileage wear. The braking system, flexible hoses, and subframe mounting points should be checked for corrosion, particularly if the vehicle has spent time on salted roads or damp driveways. The clean MOT history is encouraging, but low mileage alone does not guarantee mechanical soundness on a car of this age.
