2002 Ford Focus 2.0L Petrol · CK52 BXG

The 2002 Ford Focus has maintained a clean MOT history with no defects recorded in either of the two most recent tests—passing on 17 August 2023 at 16,307 miles and again on 21 June 2022 at 15,964 miles. This suggests a stable roadworthiness trend over the past four years, with no recurring advisories or major mechanical failures. However, the absence of defects does not preclude underlying wear, particularly given the vehicle’s age and the unusually low mileage accumulation. The most recent test occurred just under three years ago, which is well beyond the standard one-year MOT interval for this model. While the vehicle has not failed, critical components like suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers may now require closer inspection, as their service life extends far beyond the MOT’s scope. The recorded mileage of 16,307 miles over nearly 24 years—an average of approximately 679 miles annually—is exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age. Such minimal usage could indicate prolonged periods of inactivity, which may accelerate deterioration of fluids, seals, and rubber components. There is no evidence of rapid mileage accumulation or gaps in service, as the two MOT tests span just 1,343 miles over 18 months. This pattern implies the vehicle has likely been stored rather than driven regularly, raising concerns about neglected maintenance such as battery health, fuel system integrity, and potential corrosion from moisture exposure. Given the lack of MOT defects and the low mileage, a buyer should prioritise an in-person inspection of suspension components, particularly the rear suspension bushes and coil springs, which are prone to cracking or degradation over time. The brakes, though not flagged in previous tests, should be assessed for uneven wear or binding calipers, as brake fluid degradation is a risk in vehicles left stationary. Structural integrity, especially around wheel arches and sills, warrants scrutiny for corrosion, which can compromise the chassis even in low-mileage examples. Finally, the condition of the exhaust system and catalytic converter should be verified, as emissions-related failures are common in older models with extended periods of non-use.
