2019 Volvo XC40 Momentum PRO D3 AWD Auto 2.0L Heavy oil · CT19 KOU

A strong record of roadworthiness defines this Volvo XC40, punctuated by clean consecutive passes in 2023, 2024, 2025, and most recently on February 5, 2026, where it secured a pass with zero defects recorded. This unblemished recent run marks a distinct improvement over its earlier test in July 2022, which accumulated a minor defect for a defective wiper blade alongside advisories for worn rear brake discs and pads, a deteriorated rear registration plate, and bent front and rear plates. The absence of faults across the last four annual inspections demonstrates a stable period of compliance, though prospective buyers must still look closely at how the vehicle reached its current condition. At seven years old with 117,879 miles on the clock, the vehicle has accumulated roughly 16,840 miles per year, representing a significantly high usage profile compared to the national average. This heavy mileage accumulation typically points to extensive motorway journeys rather than short urban trips, which generally reduces the likelihood of severe diesel particulate filter clogging or excessive clutch wear from town driving. However, high-mileage deployment places relentless mechanical stress on highway-speed components, requiring careful scrutiny of the aerodynamic undertrays, wheel bearings, and high-pressure fuel systems that bear the brunt of continuous long-distance driving. Although the rear brakes were flagged as wearing thin back in July 2022 and subsequently passed later inspections, the substantial mileage accrued since then means the braking system demands a rigorous physical inspection on the test drive. Listen closely for any grinding, squealing, or metallic scraping from the rear axle when applying the pedal, and check the brake discs for deep scoring or pronounced lips on the outer edges. Any pulsing or juddering through the brake pedal during a firm stop from motorway speeds will indicate warped or heavily fatigued discs that require immediate replacement. Beyond the braking components, the high-mileage chassis of this XC40 requires a thorough check of the suspension geometry and subframe mountings. During the test drive, pay close attention to how the vehicle handles speed humps and uneven road surfaces, listening for any dull thunks, knocks, or excessive body roll that would signal tired suspension bushes, worn anti-roll bar links, or degraded dampers. Inspecting the inner sidewalls of the tyres for uneven wear patterns will also reveal whether the vehicle's wheel alignment has suffered from the heavy mileage it has endured on UK roads.
