2006 Vauxhall Astra 1.8L Petrol · DE56 RVM

The roadworthiness status of this Vauxhall Astra is currently compromised following a failure in the most recent test. While the vehicle maintained a clean record for four years between 2020 and 2023, the failure on 13 August 2024 at 89,311 miles indicates a break in the previous stability. Because no further testing has occurred for nearly two years, the vehicle lacks a valid MOT certificate and should be considered unfit for road use. The vehicle exhibits exceptionally low mileage for its twenty-year age, averaging approximately 4,466 miles per year. Data from 2020 to 2024 shows a consistent and low-intensity usage pattern, with only 4,865 miles covered between the July 2020 and August tests. This trend suggests the car was used for short trips or sat for long periods. However, low-mileage usage often leads to degradation of rubber-based components, such as suspension bushes, perished tyres, and seals, which age due to time rather than mechanical wear. A buyer must investigate the specific cause of the August 2024 failure, as the provided record does not detail the defects that triggered the result. Given the age of the Astra, a physical inspection should focus on structural integrity around the sills and wheel arches where corrosion is a common failure point for this model. One should also check for seized brake calipers or corroded discs which frequently occur on vehicles that are driven infrequently or left stationary.
