2012 Skoda Fabia 1.2L Petrol · DF12 KHM

A four-year absence from the MOT register is the primary mechanical concern for this vehicle. While the last recorded entry on 9 August 2022 was a clean pass with no defects, the total lack of testing data between 2022 and 2026 suggests the car has been off the road for a significant period. This creates a critical void in the roadworthiness history, meaning the current mechanical state is entirely unknown and cannot be assumed based on the previous clean record. The recorded mileage of 75,398 miles is low for a 2012 model, averaging approximately 5,386 miles per year. While this indicates limited wear on the engine internals and drivetrain, the combination of low annual usage and a multi-year testing gap suggests a vehicle that has likely suffered from prolonged periods of inactivity. Such usage patterns often lead to the deterioration of rubber components and the seizing of mechanical linkages. Due to the extended period of inactivity, a physical inspection must prioritise the braking system and suspension. During a test drive, listen for knocks or clunks from the suspension bushes and coil springs, and feel for any pedal judder or uneven braking, which could indicate binding calipers or heavily corroded brake discs. Check for any oil misting or fluid leaks around the engine and gearbox that may have developed while the vehicle sat idle. Verify the current MOT status immediately, as the vehicle is significantly overdue based on the last recorded test. Ensure that all lighting systems are operational and check the tyres for flat spots or sidewall cracking caused by long-term stationary pressure. A comprehensive mechanical evaluation is essential to ensure the vehicle is safe for road use after such a substantial hiatus.
