2017 Toyota Aygo 1.0L Petrol · DF17 WHP

The most recent MOT test conducted in August 2025 resulted in a pass, but the inspection revealed several concerning advisories regarding the vehicle's tyre condition. While the vehicle has maintained a consistent passing record since 2020, the maintenance trend regarding consumables has recently regressed. The transition from clean tests in 2022, 2023, and 2024 to multiple advisories in 2025 suggests that the tyres have reached the end of their serviceable life due to both physical wear and age-related degradation. At 45,552 miles, this Toyota Aygo has covered significantly lower mileage than the UK average for a nine-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 5,061 miles per year. This low usage profile is generally positive for the mechanical longevity of the engine and transmission components. However, low-mileage vehicles often suffer from age-related issues that are not captured by mileage alone. The lack of frequent, long-distance driving can lead to the degradation of rubber components, the settling of fluids, and potential battery health issues due to insufficient charging cycles. Prospective buyers should prioritise a thorough inspection of the tyre sidewalls and tread patterns. The recorded advisories for cracking and perishing indicate that the rubber compound is hardening and losing its ability to grip effectively, which can lead to reduced braking performance and an increased risk of a blowout. On a test drive, pay close attention to any steering vibrations or pulling to one side, which may indicate uneven wear or structural issues within the tyre carcasses. Furthermore, because the vehicle has been driven sparingly, you must verify that the service history includes time-based maintenance rather than just mileage-based intervals. Beyond the tyres, inspect the braking system for signs of binding calipers or excessive corrosion on the brake discs, which often occurs when a car is parked for extended periods. Check the 12V battery for signs of weakness, as low usage can lead to sulphation and reduced cranking power. It is also advisable to inspect all rubber hoses and suspension bushes for signs of perishing or cracking, as these components degrade through age regardless of distance travelled. Ensure that all essential fluids, including brake fluid and coolant, have been changed according to the manufacturer's time-based schedule to prevent internal corrosion or chemical breakdown.
