2013 Vauxhall Astra 1.6L Petrol · DL13 BNB

The vehicle is currently roadworthy, but the maintenance history reveals a trend of reactive rather than proactive repairs. While the most recent test in March 2026 at 115,815 miles passed, it introduced a new minor exhaust gas leak. This follows a failure in March 2025 where multiple suspension and braking issues were identified. Although the owner addressed the failed shock absorbers and ball joint dust covers to pass the subsequent test, the recurring appearance of wear-related faults suggests that components are only replaced once they reach the point of inspection failure. The mileage pattern is remarkably consistent for a 13-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 9,000 miles per year. The record shows steady progression from 89,086 miles in early 2023 to 115,815 miles in early 2026. This regularity suggests the car has been used regularly rather than sitting for long periods, which generally benefits mechanical components. However, the cumulative mileage places significant stress on rubber components and suspension hardware, as evidenced by the frequent advisories noted. A buyer must conduct a close inspection of the front suspension and braking system. The 2024 test noted corroded rear coil springs, and the 2025 test flagged pitted front brake discs and worn shock absorbers. You should check for any fluid leaks from the shock dampers and inspect the anti-roll bar joints for excessive play. The minor exhaust leak identified in the 2026 test requires immediate attention to prevent it from worsening into a more significant structural failure. Given the history of undersealing, a thorough check of the chassis is necessary to ensure that surface rust has not compromised the structural integrity of the vehicle despite the protective efforts.
