2010 Vauxhall Meriva 1.4L Petrol · DV10 AGY

The Vauxhall Meriva’s most recent MOT test on 2025-04-28 passed without defects, yet it was preceded by a failed test just four days earlier on 2025-04-24, despite identical mileage. This abrupt reversal suggests either a last-minute repair or a minor oversight in the test itself, as no defects were recorded in either instance. The previous clean pass in November 2023 was similarly uneventful, though it followed a failure the month prior at almost identical mileage. The pattern indicates no consistent mechanical issues, but the repeated failures at the same mileage—without explanation—raise questions about whether critical components were overlooked or if the vehicle was driven briefly between tests to reset minor faults. The recorded mileage of 74,284 miles over 16 years equates to approximately 4,643 miles annually, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. The gaps between tests—particularly the 15-month interval between the 2023 and 2025 MOTs—suggest prolonged periods of inactivity, which could accelerate wear on fluids, seals, and suspension components. The near-identical mileage at failure points in October 2023 and April 2025 (70,694 and 74,284 miles respectively) implies the vehicle was either stored or driven very lightly, potentially masking deeper issues. Buyers should verify if fluids (brake, power steering, coolant) were changed during these intervals, as stagnation can lead to contamination or failure. Given the lack of recorded defects, the most prudent areas for a buyer to inspect in person are the suspension and steering linkages, where wear often goes unnoticed without visible rust or play. The repeated MOT failures at similar mileages—despite no recorded issues—could hint at intermittent faults such as binding brakes, worn suspension bushes, or corrosion in wheel bearings. The 2010 Meriva’s front-wheel-drive layout means the subframe and track rods are particularly vulnerable to rust and fatigue; a thorough check for uneven tyre wear or excessive play in the steering would be advisable. Exhaust emissions were not flagged, but a visual inspection of the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors is recommended, as these can fail silently over time. Finally, the battery and electrical connections should be examined, as prolonged inactivity can lead to corrosion or discharge.
