1988 Daimler Hearse 4.2L Petrol · E684 CHS

The Daimler Hearse presents a currently roadworthy status with a stable maintenance trend, evidenced by the most recent test on 28 August 2024 at 98,338 miles returning a pass with no defects recorded. Prior to this, the 6 January 2023 test at 98,095 miles also passed cleanly. The history shows no recurring advisories or mechanical faults across the examined period, indicating the vehicle has not displayed worsening condition in the official record. Recorded mileage sits at 98,338 against an August 1988 build, equating to roughly 2,588 miles per year. The tester logged 96,100 miles on 16 November 2021 when the car first failed that day with no defects cited, then passed later the same date at 96,111 miles. By 8 December 2022 it showed 97,908 miles with another non-defect failure, rising to 98,095 by January 2023 and 98,338 by August 2024. The gaps show long stationary periods; only about 2,200 miles accrued across three years. Sparse, clean records limit deep wear analysis but imply light use or storage. A buyer should still inspect structural integrity and corrosion on the chassis and body mounts, as a 38-year-old hearse body built on a lengthened floorpan is prone to rot at seam welds and rear load bay. Check suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake discs for perishing from disuse rather than friction wear. The twin same-day 2021 results and December 2022 failure with no defects suggest administrative or presentation issues at test, not mechanical defect, yet confirm the vehicle was off the road intermittently. Given the low annual mileage and absence of flagged advisories, previous keepers likely preserved the car as a specialist or occasional-use vehicle. Verify in person that brake calipers are not binding after standing, and that exhaust emissions remain within limits for the 3.6 litre unit under real load.
