2016 Toyota Aygo 1.0L Petrol · EF16 AYN

The 2016 Toyota Aygo currently presents a passed MOT status from its most recent examination on 10 July 2025 at the recorded mileage. However, this clean outcome must be viewed in context. Two of the five recorded tests resulted in failures, both occurring in July 2024 and July 2023 respectively, immediately followed by retests that passed on the same dates. While this pattern can simply indicate minor, quickly resolved issues that were fixed prior to the retest, the absence of any advisory or defect notes on the official record makes it impossible to identify the specific causes. The fact that both 2023 and 2024 tests produced initial failures followed by same-day passes suggests recurring, intermittent faults rather than a deeply deteriorating mechanical trend, but a buyer has no documentary evidence of what those faults were. Since the record shows only clean pass markers and no advisories, no specific component trend can be mapped. Annual mileage of roughly 6,430 miles is broadly typical for a ten year old vehicle, though the supplied data lacks the intermediate test milestones needed to calculate exact mileage progression between 2023 and 2025. The MOT coverage spans only three calendar years, which is the standard annual testing window, and all tests cluster around the July expiry date, indicating consistent compliance with the testing schedule. No extended gaps in MOT history are evident from the provided record, which speaks only to compliance rather than the mechanical wear rate between tests. The complete absence of recorded advisories across all five tests is unusual for a ten year old car, as vehicles of this age typically show some wear on suspension bushes, coil springs, brake discs, or exhaust components. This either points to a car that genuinely has minimal wear on inspected parts, or it suggests that underlying wear items were not flagged or were repaired before each test. A prospective buyer should not interpret the clean advisory record as proof of excellent condition, since MOT testing is a roadworthiness snapshot rather than a comprehensive mechanical audit. Items frequently missed or not included in standard MOT checks should be examined in person, including the condition of the clutch, gearbox operation, coolant and oil condition, cambelt replacement interval (due roughly every five years or 60,000 miles on this model), and any corrosion on the underbody or structural panels. The two unexplained failures also warrant a diagnostic scan for intermittent electrical or sensor faults that could recur. Overall, the documented record is too sparse to draw firm conclusions about long term mechanical integrity. The 2025 pass is recent and valid, but the failure pattern from the prior two years introduces an element of uncertainty that no advisory text resolves. A pre-purchase inspection by an independent mechanic is strongly advisable.
