2008 Hyundai Coupe 2.0L Petrol · EN08 MHX

The Hyundai Coupe’s MOT history presents an unusual but mechanically clean record, with the most recent tests in July 2025—just ten months prior to the current date—showing no defects on either the initial or retest attempt. This consistency suggests the vehicle has been well maintained in critical areas, as no advisories or failures were logged over the past three years, despite covering nearly 27,000 miles since the 2023 test. The absence of recurring issues such as suspension wear, brake binding, or corrosion-related faults implies that major structural and safety components have either been proactively serviced or have aged gracefully under light use. That said, the duplicate failed test on the same day—both with zero defects—raises a procedural red flag, though it does not compromise the car’s mechanical soundness. The vehicle’s mileage of 96,670 over 18 years equates to roughly 5,371 miles annually, a figure well below the UK average for its age group, which typically exceeds 7,000 miles per year. This low usage pattern is evident in the steady, incremental increases: just 9,364 miles added between April 2023 and July 2025, and a similar gap of 9,690 miles from April 2022 to April 2023. Such minimal accumulation could indicate prolonged periods of disuse, storage, or a single owner’s cautious driving habits. While low mileage generally reduces wear on consumables like tyres and brakes, it may also mask deferred maintenance if the car has sat unused for extended periods—particularly in terms of fluid checks, battery health, or minor corrosion prevention. Given the clean MOT history, a prospective buyer should still prioritise a thorough pre-purchase inspection, focusing on components that are not routinely tested but can degrade over time. Pay close attention to the suspension—specifically the condition of coil springs, anti-roll bars, and rubber bushes—since these are not always flagged unless visibly damaged. The brake system, including caliper slides, flexible hoses, and disc thickness, should be checked for uneven wear or seized components, even though no binding was recorded. Exhaust emissions and the catalytic converter’s efficiency may also warrant inspection, given the car’s age and the potential for reduced performance if not regularly driven. Finally, inspect for surface rust in wheel arches, sills, and underbody panels, as low-mileage vehicles are sometimes stored in conditions that accelerate corrosion.
