2001 Mazda E Series 2.2L Diesel · EY51 MJV

The vehicle currently presents a stable roadworthiness status, having passed its most recent test in December 2022 with 97,443 miles and no defects recorded. This represents a significant improvement over the mechanical failures seen in 2019. While the most recent results are clean, the history indicates a history of corrosion and structural weakness that suggests previous owners only addressed specific faults upon failure rather than performing proactive preventative maintenance. The mileage profile is exceptionally low for a twenty-five year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 3,900 miles per year. The data shows very infrequent usage patterns between 2019 and 2022, where the car covered only 4,398 miles over a three-year period. This low mileage suggests minimal mechanical wear on the drivetrain and engine components, but long periods of inactivity often lead to the degradation of rubber-based components, seized seals, and accelerated corrosion of brake lines due to moisture retention in the system. A physical inspection must focus heavily on the structural integrity of the chassis and the condition of the braking system. The 2020 test flagged corrosion on the offside rear vehicle structure, and the 2019 failure highlighted corroded brake pipes obscured by grease. A buyer should meticulously inspect the underbody for spreading surface rust and ensure the previously flagged corrosion has not progressed beyond the advisory stage. Additionally, the front suspension rod attachment brackets, which failed in 2019, should be checked for any signs of movement or mounting fatigue to ensure the repair remains secure.
