A significant period of inactivity followed by recent braking system failures defines the mechanical record of this vehicle. While the vehicle achieved a pass on 2026-08-01, this followed a failure just one day prior due to an inoperative offside rear parking brake, insufficient parking brake efficiency, and imbalanced rear brakes across the second axle. This pattern suggests a braking system that required immediate corrective work to meet minimum roadworthiness standards after a long absence from the road. The recorded mileage of 196,010 miles is low for a vehicle of this age, averaging roughly 5,298 miles per year. However, the MOT history reveals a substantial six-year gap in testing between August 2020 and July 2026. Such a prolonged period of standing often results in the degradation of rubber components, the seizing of calipers, and the deterioration of various seals and fluids, which is reflected in the immediate braking failures encountered upon the vehicle's return to testing. Given the recent failures regarding the parking brake efficiency and rear brake imbalance, a thorough evaluation of the braking system is essential. During a test drive, the buyer should assess the firmness of the handbrake and ensure there is no pulling to one side under braking, which would indicate persisting imbalance across the rear axle. The pedal feel should be consistent and free from excessive travel or sponginess. Attention should also be paid to the wheel bearings and steering assembly, as these were flagged with play and wear in 2020. Listen for a rhythmic humming or droning sound that changes with vehicle speed, particularly originating from the nearside front and offside rear. Additionally, any excessive play or a knocking sensation in the steering wheel may indicate that the steering column top bearing wear noted in the 2020 record remains unaddressed.
