2004 Volkswagen Transporter 1.9L Diesel · FA04 DWG

The vehicle presents a high level of roadworthiness with a remarkably stable maintenance trend. The most recent test conducted on 25 July 2025 at 83,393 miles resulted in no defects or advisories. This streak of clean passes across the last five years indicates that the vehicle has been maintained to a high standard and has not suffered from the mechanical failures typically seen in vans of this age. The mileage profile is exceptionally low for a 22-year-old transporter, averaging approximately 3,800 miles per year. Between July 2021 and July 2025, the vehicle covered only 9,802 miles, suggesting very light use or long periods of storage. The gap of 2,339 miles between the 2024 and 2025 tests shows consistent, minimal usage patterns. While low mileage reduces wear on the drivetrain, it often leads to the degradation of rubber-based components and the drying of seals due to the lack of regular high-distance running. Despite the clean MOT history, a physical inspection must focus on structural integrity and age-related perishables. Transporters of this era are prone to corrosion in the sills, floor pans, and mounting points, which may not always trigger a failure until they become significant. The buyer should check for cracks in suspension bushes and perished tyres, as these components degrade over time regardless of the miles driven. Checking the brake fluid and inspecting for seized calipers is also vital, as low-use vehicles often suffer from internal corrosion within the braking system.
