2007 Vauxhall Zafira 1.6L Petrol · FH07 FCL

A recurring pattern of tyre wear and steering linkage issues defines the mechanical history of this Vauxhall Zafira, despite the most recent test on 24 March 2026 showing a pass with no recorded defects. The records indicate a frequent requirement for tyre replacements due to uneven wear on inner and outer edges, alongside a previous failure in January 2021 involving multiple door latching failures and a dangerous tyre defect with exposed cords. While the most recent result suggests these specific issues have been addressed, the history shows a trend of consumables reaching legal limits across multiple test cycles. The vehicle has covered 100,679 miles over its 19-year lifespan, which equates to an average annual accumulation of approximately 5,299 miles. This is a low mileage profile for a vehicle of this age. Mechanically, such a pattern often implies shorter, less frequent journeys rather than sustained motorway use. While lower mileage can reduce wear on certain drivetrain components, it can also mean that components like suspension bushes and braking systems are subject to different stress patterns, and the history of uneven tyre wear may be linked to specific driving habits or alignment issues common in low-use vehicles. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the steering and suspension during a test drive, specifically addressing the slight play noted in the nearside and offside steering linkage ball joints in March 2024. Listen for any knocking, clunking, or irregular clicking sounds when turning the steering wheel at low speeds or when driving over uneven road surfaces, as these symptoms often correlate with worn ball joints or linkage components. Furthermore, given the repeated advisories regarding tyres being worn on the edges, it is essential to check the current alignment of the vehicle. Any pulling to one side or a wandering sensation through the steering wheel could indicate that the underlying cause of the previous uneven tyre wear has not been fully rectified. The braking system also warrants scrutiny following advisories regarding thin rear brake pads in 2021. During a road test, check for any pedal judder, uneven braking force, or high-pitched squealing which could indicate pad wear or binding calipers. Although the 2026 test was clear, the history of multiple tyre-related advisories and steering play means a thorough inspection of the wheel arches and suspension geometry is necessary to ensure that the vehicle's handling remains stable and that the recent pass reflects a comprehensive resolution of these recurring items.
