2005 Mazda MX-5 1.6L Petrol · FH54 HWV

The vehicle’s most recent MOT on 2026-01-14 resulted in a failure, though no defects were recorded, which is unusual. Previous tests from 2022 to 2025 showed consistent passing with no recorded issues, indicating a stable maintenance trend. The lack of defects in the latest failure may suggest a procedural error or a minor technicality, but the absence of documented concerns in prior years implies the car has been well-maintained up to that point. The mileage of 117,216 miles at 21 years old equates to approximately 5,582 miles annually, a low figure that suggests either infrequent use or extended periods of inactivity. Annual MOTs from 2022 to 2026 show steady mileage increases of 2,936 to 3,349 miles per year, with no significant gaps or rapid accumulation. This pattern aligns with moderate usage but does not provide insight into potential wear from prolonged idleness, such as degraded rubber components or corrosion. While the MOT history lacks specific mechanical issues, the low mileage and annual testing frequency mean critical components like suspension bushes, coil springs, and rear-wheel drive systems may require closer inspection. The failure in 2026 without recorded defects warrants verification of the MOT’s accuracy, but no structural or safety-critical faults are evident from the data. A buyer should assess the vehicle’s underbody for rust, check brake calipers for binding, and confirm the condition of tyres and exhaust emissions, as these are common areas for hidden deterioration in older vehicles.
