2004 KIA RIO 1.3L Petrol · FP04 VWC

The 2004 Kia Rio demonstrates a stable and exemplary maintenance trend, culminating in a clean pass on 10 November 2025 at 93,640 miles. Every recorded MOT test since 2021 has passed with zero defects or advisories. This flawless record indicates a vehicle that has been consistently maintained to a high standard, with no recurring mechanical or structural issues requiring intervention. The absence of any flagged defects across five consecutive annual tests suggests attentive ownership and proactive servicing. The mileage accumulation aligns with exceptionally low usage for a vehicle of this age. Between the 2021 test at 89,126 miles and the 2025 test at 93,640 miles, the car covered just 4,514 miles over four years, averaging roughly 1,128 miles annually during this specific window. The yearly increments are remarkably consistent: 609 miles between 2023 and 2024, 569 miles between 2024 and 2025, and 910 miles between 2022 and 2023. Such minimal annual mileage points to short, localized journeys rather than sustained high-speed driving, which can prevent the engine and exhaust components from reaching optimal operating temperatures, potentially leading to moisture buildup in the oil and exhaust system. Despite the pristine MOT record, a physical inspection must focus on the specific risks associated with a low-mileage, twenty-two-year-old vehicle. Prolonged periods of standing can cause perishing of rubber suspension bushes, brake caliper seizure from lack of use, and flat-spotting of tyres. Buyers should closely examine the condition of the tyre sidewalls for cracking and check the brake discs for surface corrosion that can develop during short trips. The exhaust system requires scrutiny for internal condensation rust, a common affliction in vehicles that rarely travel far enough to fully evaporate moisture. Underneath, inspect the structural integrity of the chassis and sills for corrosion, as older vehicles of this era can be susceptible to rust if not kept in a dry environment.
