2007 Citroen C4 1.6L Petrol · FT07 AAJ

The latest recorded MOT result for this Citroen C4 was a pass on 16 December 2021 with no defects or advisories noted. While there was a recorded failure on 09 December 2021, the absence of specific defect details in the DVSA record prevents a precise analysis of what required rectification. However, the successful pass following that failure indicates that the necessary repairs were completed to meet minimum safety standards at that time. Because the records are sparse, it is difficult to establish a definitive long-term maintenance trend, but the most recent outcome suggests the vehicle was in a compliant state during its last documented inspection. Regarding mileage, the vehicle has covered 97,951 miles over 19 years, which equates to an average of approximately 5,155 miles per annum. This is considered low usage for a vehicle of this age, suggesting it has not been subjected to the heavy mechanical strain associated with high-mileage motorway driving. While this can be an advantage for the engine and gearbox, low-mileage vehicles often present specific risks related to infrequent use. Long periods of standing can lead to the degradation of rubber components, the settling of fluids, and the onset of corrosion in areas that are not regularly cleaned by road spray and movement. Given the low usage profile and clean MOT history, your inspection should prioritise age-related deterioration over wear-and-tear. Closely examine the tyres for signs of perishing, such as sidewall cracking or fine cracks in the tread grooves, as rubber loses its elasticity over time regardless of remaining tread. Check the brake discs for heavy corrosion or pitting, which can cause vibration or reduced braking efficiency if the car has been stationary for long periods, and listen for any signs of binding calipers during the test drive. It is also vital to confirm that the vehicle has been serviced according to time intervals rather than just mileage, as engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid all degrade chemically over time. Additionally, you should inspect the condition of the suspension bushes and coil springs for signs of perished rubber or excessive corrosion, as these components can fail due to age. Pay attention to any clunks or knocks when driving over uneven surfaces, which may indicate worn suspension mounting points. Check the 12V battery for signs of age and ensure the electrical systems, including window regulators and door locks, operate smoothly without hesitation. Finally, verify the presence of a service book with consistent stamps to ensure that the low mileage has not resulted in neglected maintenance, which is a common issue with vehicles used infrequently.
