2007 Vauxhall Astra 1.8L Petrol · FV07 VUA

This Vauxhall Astra’s most recent MOT test on 2025-03-25—just over a year ago—shows an unusual but technically compliant history, with a single pass and a fail recorded simultaneously at 114,418 miles. The fail entry lacks any defects, suggesting a possible administrative error rather than a mechanical issue, though the vehicle ultimately passed. The preceding tests in 2024 and 2023 also passed without advisories, indicating no recurring faults were noted by the tester. The overall trend is stable, but the duplicated MOT date warrants confirmation that no undocumented work was deferred. The vehicle’s age (19 years) and mileage (114,418) align with typical usage patterns, though the lack of advisories in any test implies either diligent maintenance or a history of minor issues overlooked by testers. Mileage progression reveals consistent annual usage, averaging around 6,000 miles per year—a rate that suggests regular driving rather than neglect or prolonged storage. The gap between tests is standard, with no abrupt jumps or prolonged inactivity, though the 2024-2025 interval (114,418 to 114,418 miles) is anomalous and likely a data anomaly. Without service records, it’s impossible to confirm whether critical intervals (e.g., suspension bush replacements, timing belt checks) were adhered to, but the MOT history does not indicate any forced early failures that might point to underlying mechanical stress. Given the absence of advisories, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of high-wear components typical for this model age. Focus on the suspension system—particularly rear coil springs and bushes—for signs of fatigue or corrosion, as these often fail silently. The brakes, while not flagged in tests, should be checked for uneven wear or binding calipers, especially if the vehicle has been driven hard. Structural integrity is another concern; inspect the wheel arches, sills, and subframe for rust penetration, as this model is prone to corrosion in these areas. Finally, verify the exhaust system for leaks or excessive rust, as emissions-related failures are common in older vehicles. The lack of advisories does not guarantee these areas are sound—only that they passed the basic MOT checks at the time.
