2013 Toyota RAV4 Invincible D-4D 2.2L Heavy oil · FV13 MTY

This 2013 Toyota RAV4 presents an unusually clean and reassuring roadworthiness profile, with five consecutive MOT passes from November 2021 through March 2026 and no advisories or defects recorded against any test. The most recent examination on 22 March 2026 returned a clean pass with no defects recorded, continuing a pattern established over the previous four annual tests dating back to 2021. The absence of any flagged items across this five-year window covering over 95,000 miles of road use is notable for a vehicle of this age and suggests the structural, braking, suspension, exhaust, and lighting systems have remained within MOT tolerances without presenting any borderline wear points. While a clean advisory record does not constitute a guarantee of mechanical condition, it does indicate that the car has not been presenting the sort of progressive deterioration in consumables, corrosion, or component wear that typically surfaces on a thirteen-year-old SUV. The recorded mileage of 96,640 against a thirteen-year registration places annual accumulation at approximately 7,434 miles, which sits broadly in line with typical usage for a vehicle of this age and class. The MOT testing history reflects consistent annual use with no significant gaps that might suggest extended periods off the road, although the interval between the December 2023 test and the March 2025 test spans around fifteen months rather than the usual twelve, which is a minor irregularity worth noting but not indicative of a long-term lay-up. Mileage progression appears steady across the documented tests, with no sudden spikes that would suggest tow use, long-distance touring, or odometer irregularities. Mechanically, this level of consistent moderate use tends to be kinder to components than very low mileage with prolonged standing, as regular running keeps seals lubricated, brake systems exercised, and the drivetrain operating at normal operating temperature. For a prospective buyer, the principal area of attention given this record is the absence of any flagged items, which shifts the inspection focus towards identifying wear that an MOT may not capture. On a test drive, listen carefully for any knocking or clonking from the front suspension over uneven surfaces, particularly at low speed, as the test record does not document the condition of the lower suspension arms, anti-roll bar links, or bushes, all of which are common wear points on a RAV4 of this vintage. Steering should feel precise without wandering or pulling, and any vagueness around the straight-ahead position could indicate worn front suspension geometry that has not yet deteriorated to MOT failure threshold. Brake pedal feel should be firm and consistent, with no excessive travel or sponginess, and the car should pull up in a straight line under firm application. A thorough physical inspection should also address areas that MOT testing does not comprehensively cover. Check the underside for any fluid weepage from the engine, gearbox, or rear differential, and inspect the condition of the coolant and brake fluid, as neither item forms part of the standard MOT assessment and both are time-since-replacement items on a thirteen-year-old vehicle. Examine the alloy wheels for kerbing damage, confirm the tyres are matching brand and tread depth across axles, and verify that the operation of the air conditioning, infotainment, and electric windows is consistent throughout. With a clean MOT history, sensible mileage, and no documented structural or corrosion concerns, this RAV4 represents a vehicle whose mechanical foundations are demonstrably sound, but a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified technician would still be advisable to confirm the condition of the timing chain, automatic transmission fluid, and four-wheel-drive system if fitted, as these are areas where age-related deterioration can occur independently of MOT outcomes.
