2005 Suzuki Swift 1.3L Petrol · FY55 OVV

The Suzuki Swift’s MOT history reveals a concerning pattern of repeated failures without any recorded defects, culminating in the most recent test on 20 February 2025 at 76,479 miles, where it failed despite no mechanical issues being logged. This inconsistency suggests either administrative errors in the DVSA system or deliberate manipulation of test outcomes, as the vehicle passed and failed consecutively on identical mileages within days. The absence of any advisories or defects across all six tests—spanning from February 2023 to February 2025—implies either exceptional luck or deliberate suppression of faults. Given the lack of transparency, a buyer should treat this history with extreme caution, as it does not reflect genuine roadworthiness scrutiny. The vehicle’s mileage of 76,479 miles over 21 years equates to an average of just 3,642 miles annually, far below the typical annual average for its age group. This low usage could indicate prolonged periods of inactivity, which may have contributed to issues like seized components or degraded fluids not yet surfacing in tests. The fact that mileage increments are minimal—just 2,080 miles between February 2023 and February 2024, and another 2,310 miles in the following year—raises questions about whether the car has been driven regularly or stored intermittently. Such low mileage might mask hidden wear, particularly in suspension bushes, coil springs, or brake calipers, which could degrade even without high mileage if exposed to moisture or corrosion. Given the complete absence of recorded defects, a buyer should prioritise a thorough pre-purchase inspection focusing on structural integrity, as the MOT history provides no evidence of professional oversight. Key areas to examine include the suspension—particularly the rear trailing arms, bushes, and coil springs—for signs of wear or corrosion, given the vehicle’s age and potential exposure to the elements. The braking system should be scrutinised for binding calipers, uneven disc thickness, or fluid leaks, as these are common issues in older vehicles that may not always trigger MOT advisories. Additionally, the exhaust system, especially the mounts and heat shields, should be checked for rust or deterioration, while the underbody should be inspected for corrosion in high-stress areas like the sills and subframe. The lack of documented faults in the MOT history makes this inspection all the more critical.
