2005 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2.2L Diesel · GF55 UHL

The roadworthiness status of this Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is currently highly uncertain, given that the last recorded MOT expired years ago. In the most recent test on 20 June 2022, the vehicle passed with no defects recorded, following another clean pass on 16 December 2021. While these consecutive clean passes suggest a stable maintenance standard up to mid-2022, the subsequent four-year absence of MOT data indicates the vehicle has either been laid up, declared SORN, or operated illegally. The historical trend cannot be projected into 2026 without a fresh inspection. Accumulating 209,529 miles over 21 years averages out to roughly 9,978 miles per year, which represents typical commercial usage for a vehicle of this class. The complete lack of mileage updates or test records between the June 2022 test and August 2026 points to a prolonged period of inactivity. Long-term storage introduces specific mechanical risks that do not show up on historic paperwork, such as seized brake calipers, degraded rubber bushes, and perished tyre sidewalls. A buyer must treat the recorded mileage with caution until verifying the vehicle's operational history during this dormant period. Prospective buyers must conduct a rigorous physical inspection, focusing heavily on structural integrity and chassis corrosion. Mercedes-Benz Sprinters of this vintage are highly susceptible to rust in the inner sills, crossmembers, and suspension mounting points. The braking system requires immediate evaluation because standing idle for several years typically causes binding calipers, heavily corroded brake discs, and degraded flexible brake hoses. Suspension components, particularly the front leaf springs, rear leaf shackles, and rubber suspension bushes, must be checked for perishing and cracking. The engine bay and drivetrain also demand close scrutiny. Inspect the fuel system for leaks, particularly around the high-pressure pump and injectors, as well as the condition of the auxiliary drive belts and coolant hoses which harden and split over time. A professional diagnostic scan is essential to check for stored fault codes in the engine management system, especially since the vehicle has not faced an emissions test or diagnostic check in over four years.
